¡Que Viva! Artes

The biennial ¡Que Viva! is a celebration of the past, present, and future of the Taos community. Through programs and “Taos-centric” exhibitions, we will share and explore its history while preserving and celebrating traditions, customs and artforms.

¡Que Viva Artes! is an invitational exhibition continuing Taos’ important artistic legacy and multicultural history. ¡Que Viva Artes! brings together dozens of leading artists working in a variety of media, collectively telling a holistic story of Taos. A selection of Taos and Taos County artists were invited to submit work for the exhibition and sale in our Dean Porter Gallery and online to national collectors.

Artistic traditions in the Taos area reach back over millennia, beginning with the Indigenous communities, then the Spanish settlers, followed by Anglo settlers. When the Taos Society of Artists founded an art colony here more than a hundred years ago, they dedicated themselves to developing a uniquely American art. That creative community is alive and well, as demonstrated by the diversity and breadth of artistic traditions of the people who call Taos Valley home.

In addition to spotlighting our local Taos artists, ¡Que Viva! Artes is a tremendous opportunity to get the word out that Taos was and is a vital, vibrant artists’ community—bringing the legacy of Taos art to life!

Please plan to join us at our inaugural ¡Que Viva! celebration on June 7, 11–3 p.m., at Couse-Sharp Historic Site in the heart of the Taos historic district. The event is free to all.
